The Global Covenant of Mayor for Climate & Energy (GCoM)’s Data Portal for Cities is an open platform that helps communities fill critical information gaps by providing data from national and regional sources that was previously unavailable. At the 2024 Innovate4Cities Conference, GCoM announced the launch of exciting new features to the portal.
In its latest development phase, the tool has been upgraded to enable cities to build a complete Greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory as a foundation for evidence-based climate action plans and monitoring over the coming years. Cities and Local Authority users will have access to Google’s Environmental Insights Explorer (EIE) transportation activity and emissions data and Brazilian cities will have exclusive access to SEEG’s emissions data. The portal will be available for free to official city users globally and select datasets and functionality will be accessible to academics or professionals that are interested in developing a GHG inventory. The initial roll out of the tool will be for Brazilian cities with a roadmap to expand to all regions of the world by the end of 2024.
City officials and other users can gain access to the portal by registering online. As the portal evolves to meet the demands of climate action, the Global Covenant of Mayors is committed to empowering cities with the tools and data needed to drive impactful climate action and build a sustainable future.
