REGIONAL RESEARCH AND INNOVATION FOR CITY CLIMATE ACTION – GLOBAL SYNTHESIS REPORT

This report, presented to the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, summarises and compares findings on city climate action, research, and innovation priorities and activities across 10 regions spanning the globe. The Connected Cities Lab, in collaboration with Ironbark Sustainability, developed a database of city actions from 98 climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies published in English since 2016. This methodology documents, categorises, and aggregates city actions to facilitate knowledge sharing tailored to the local context, thereby helping to accelerate climate action journeys. The research highlights how cities are integrating research and innovation in climate change plans through actions to understand climate challenges (including emissions sources and climate hazards) and to identify and pilot test solutions.
