The Global Covenant of Mayors welcomes the agreement reached today on the European Climate Law

The Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, the largest global alliance for city climate leadership, welcomes the agreement reached today on the European Climate Law. The EU’s new binding climate neutrality and 2030 emission reduction targets are a crucial milestone in the global fight against climate change and a great signal ahead of the Leaders Summit on Climate this week, and COP26 in November.

We have no time to waste in accelerating ambitious initiatives that lead to a net-zero and climate-resilient future.

The Global Covenant of Mayors reaffirms its commitment to drive climate action and to deliver on the targets agreed in the Paris Agreement, for which cities and local governments will be cornerstones. We are looking forward to continue working with the European Institutions and our Co-Chair and Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans towards a low-emission and climate-resilient future in Europe and around the globe.
