Cities welcome to join the Urban Transitions Mission

As the first 48 cities that joined the Urban Transitions Mission (UTM) continue to spearhead approaches, test solutions and accelerate their journey towards decarbonization and resilience, the Urban Transitions Mission continues to welcome applications from cities across the world to join the city cohort. Cities are invited to apply online and express their interest to join the Mission’s cohort by the 21st of September 2023 through a brief online application form.

GLOBAL COVENANT OF MAYORS AND ARUP RELEASE NEW REPORT, “UNLOCKING URBAN ENERGY ACCESS AND POVERTY”

Lacking access to affordable and reliable energy is a clear indication of deprivation in the daily lives of urban residents. Local governments are well aware of the urgency and benefits associated with tackling energy access and poverty. However, they frequently encounter significant and complex barriers that limit their ability to implement interventions or explore innovative solutions. To help local governments ensure access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy for all, GCoM and ARUP released the highly anticipated Unlocking Urban Energy Access and Poverty research and summary reports.

ENERGIZING CITY CLIMATE ACTION: THE 2022 GLOBAL COVENANT OF MAYORS IMPACT REPORT

With climate mitigation targets that are projected to reduce global emissions by 4.1 GtCO2e in 2050, equivalent to 80 per cent of USA’s yearly GtCO2 emissions, GCoM cities are demonstrating that they are already taking action. Additionally this year, cities have reported hundreds of thousands of practical actions to improve energy efficiency, invest in renewable energy generation, address energy access, and adapt to the impacts of climate change.

THE MULTILEVEL CLIMATE ACTION PLAYBOOK FOR LOCAL AND REGIONAL GOVERNMENTS

The Multilevel Climate Action Playbook Second Edition is a follow-up to the Multilevel Climate Action Playbook for Local and Regional Governments published in November 2021, which recommended key elements of an enabling environment that can weave climate ambition and action of local and regional governments into Party policy developments. This second edition of the Playbook is a guide that lays out the options for national, regional and local authorities from policy levers to institution-building, drawing on examples from national, regional and local level of both mitigation and adaptation.
