Any city or town in the world may commit to the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy —regardless of size or location. Cities or local governments wishing to formalize a commitment to the Global Covenant of Mayors must submit a signed commitment text:

  • Directly to the Regional Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy helpdesk or Secretariat where on is established; or
  • Through their partner network
  • By contacting the Secretariat of the Global Covenant of Mayors at info@globalcovenantofmayors.org

If you are a Compact of Mayors city, there will be no change to your commitment or compliance requirements. The Compact of Mayors will gradually cease to operate as a separate initiative beginning in January 2017. Existing commitments made will be honored for a period of at least 2 years, until December 2018.

to compliance for the Compact of Mayors.

The EU’s Covenant of Mayors will remain as regional covenants under the umbrella of the Global Covenant of Mayors and will adopt principles as defined in the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy Charter whilst adjusting them to the regional or national specifics. Like Compact cities, Covenant commitments will remain unchanged until 2018.

If you have already made a commitment to the Compact of Mayors or joined the Covenant of Mayors, you do not need to make an additional commitment to the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy until December 2018.
